Research CoinRSRCH, a research token on Solana mainnet

A token with no value, placed in a live market on purpose.

RSRCH is a research token on Solana mainnet, issued as two mints. One is pooled against SOL on Meteora DAMM v2. The other is pooled only against the first, so neither side of that pool is anything anyone values. Both exist so that real pools, routers, indexers and bots can be observed using assets the operator fully controls and nobody is meant to want. This page explains why that has to happen on mainnet, what gets measured, how a study is run, and the rules the operator holds to.

Why it runs on mainnet and not devnet

The program is the least interesting part of a token. Everything around it only exists in one place.

Devnet answers one question: does the program execute. Almost everything worth knowing about a token's life happens outside the program and only on mainnet. How Jupiter routes it. How long Dexscreener takes to notice it. Which bots show up in the first few slots after the pool opens. What priority fee actually lands a swap at two in the afternoon on a congested day. None of that infrastructure watches devnet, and the parts of it that are deployed there run empty.

The trade-off is that mainnet has consequences. Real SOL is spent on rent and pool fees, and a stranger can buy the token. The rest of this page is about taking the measurements while keeping those consequences small, disclosed and reversible.

What the token is used to measure

Every pool is created to answer one written question. These are the questions so far.

A pool that is fully controlled by the researcher is a clean instrument. The reserves, authorities, fee tier and starting price are all known, so anything that happens afterwards can be attributed. The questions fall into a few groups: how fast the surrounding infrastructure reacts, whether the math on the chain matches the math on paper, and how venues and tools behave when a token is slightly unusual.

Why the pool is small

A tiny pool shows the whole curve with pocket change. It also punishes anyone who treats it as a market.

The numbers below are for an illustrative pool, not either live pool, because the shape is what matters. A pool seeded with half a SOL exaggerates everything. A 0.1 SOL buy moves the price 44 percent and a 0.5 SOL buy quadruples it. For a study that is the point. The entire shape of the curve becomes visible with amounts nobody minds losing, and the predicted output of every swap can be checked against the chain to the lamport.

For anyone else it is the reason to stay away. Any trade large enough to matter to a person is large enough to wreck the price against them, and there is no one on the other side who wants the token back.

A hyperbola of SOL reserve against RSRCH reserve for a constant product of fifty million. Points mark the seeded state and the state after buys of 0.1 SOL and 0.5 SOL. 50 100 150 0.5 1.0 1.5 SOL in pool RSRCH in pool (millions) Seed: 0.5 SOL and 100M RSRCH After a 0.1 SOL buy After a 0.5 SOL buy
Figure 1. Reserve curve x·y = k for a pool seeded with 0.5 SOL and 100,000,000 RSRCH, so k = 50,000,000. Spot price is the ratio of the two reserves, so moving right along the curve makes each RSRCH cost more SOL. Swap fees are omitted.
Table 3. Buys against the seeded pool, fees omitted

Prices are in SOL per RSRCH. A venue's fee tier (0.25% is common) reduces each output slightly; the recorded prediction for every operator swap includes it.

How a study runs

The same sequence every time, so results from different pools can be compared.

  1. Write the question first

A pool is only created to answer something specific: a hypothesis, the metric that settles it, and the condition that ends the study. If the question cannot be written in one sentence, the pool is not created.

  2. Create the mint

Decimals, supply and authority states are chosen to fit the question. The name says Research Coin and the metadata is made immutable before the first pool opens, so no explorer, wallet or indexer can show the token without the label attached or see the label change later.

  3. Attach metadata that says the same thing

The on-chain metadata description states that the token has no value, and its external link points at this page. The off-chain JSON is hosted somewhere that will outlive the pool.

  4. Publish the disclosure before the pool exists

This page is live before the first swap is possible. The addresses on it are filled in the moment they exist, and the study status is updated when it changes.

  5. Seed the pool

The smallest liquidity that still produces the measurement. The creation signature, slot, pool address and LP token mint are recorded before anything else is done.

  6. Record everything

Swaps, liquidity changes and account updates are streamed from the moment of creation and stored raw before they are parsed, so a bug in the parser never costs a data point.

  7. Run the controlled trades

Fixed sizes from labelled operator wallets, repeated across fee tiers and times of day. Each predicted output is written down before the swap lands so the comparison cannot be adjusted afterwards.

  8. Watch what arrives uninvited

Indexers, bots and holders that show up without being asked are part of the data. Nothing is done to attract or discourage them.

  9. Withdraw and write up

Liquidity is removed, authority states are confirmed, totals are reconciled against the extraction rule below, and the findings and raw data are published.

Rules the operator follows

These exist because mainnet has consequences. Each one can be checked on-chain.

  • Every surface says the same thing.Name, symbol, metadata, this page and the pool's listing all state that RSRCH has no value and is not for sale.
  • Nothing is promoted. No posts, no listings, no paid boosts, no volume generation, and no replies to anyone asking about price.
  • Liquidity stays small.A pool holds an amount the operator is prepared to lose outright, sized so that a stranger's mistake costs them little.
  • The operator never extracts. The operator withdraws no more SOL than it deposited. Net SOL contributed by other wallets is returned to those wallets after the pool is closed.
  • Pools are closed, not abandoned. No pool is left running after its question is answered. Liquidity is withdrawn and the status on this page is changed the same day.
  • Addresses are public.Mint addresses and metadata are listed on this page so that every claim here can be verified without trusting it.

If you already hold RSRCH

You were not supposed to, but here is what that means.

Do nothing

There is nothing to claim, redeem or wait for. The token will not be listed anywhere, will not be bought back and will not be used for anything beyond the measurements described above.

Check rather than trust

Confirm the mint and freeze authorities and the pool's liquidity on an explorer instead of taking this page's word for it. The addresses are in the specimen label and the footer.

Expect the pool to disappear

Liquidity is withdrawn when the study ends. Net SOL contributed by wallets other than the operator's is returned to those wallets under the extraction rule.
